Who we are

We want to share our accumulated knowledge and personal experiences in certain types of endurance sport. We are not so-called “experts” in these fields at all! You can gather much more info from the Internet and printed media and formal coaches. What we share is typically the overlooked aspects of the very basics. If you were to ask us a question to which we do not know the answer, we undertake to say: ”I don’t know”. And then help you find the answer. Consider this web site as “always incomplete”, and feel free to assist us in improving it. Better still: if you were to think “like-minded”, feel free to join us so you can also support others! By “like-minded” we mean: The Lord has blessed most of us with the basics of health: clear thinking, four limbs, ability to move and enjoy eating and sleeping and fun stuff …. We enjoyed sport for many decades – and met great friends via sport. So now we want to give back a little. We dream that this movement will grow and join up with other similar movements in support of schools, church groups …. and share, and give back …… for many years after inception.

For the time being, read “us” as just meaning “Lochi”. Hopefully with time “Lochi” will soon become less/zero and “us” will grow to a huge group of sport enthusiasts who bought into Our Mission! Lochi Lochner was born in the North-West Cape in 1947. Grew up in a conservative home, enjoyed an Afrikaans primary farm school, with great parents and sibling. The Christian principles of love/support/share/ … were a given. High school and military training in Pretoria. Studied B.Sc., B. Mechanical Engineering at University of Stellenbosch and post grad thereafter at UCT. Married Erna Barnard (music teacher) and worked at engineering corporates before retiring in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). Sport achievements: nothing that rewrote the record books, though enough to call himself at least “an experienced has-been”: Track running to provincial level at school and university, (link to image 1) (link to image 2) (link to image 3) (link to image 4) (link to image 5) (link to image 6) (link to image 7) later road running of sorts: 12 Comrades marathons, 100-Miler, 400km mtb race, (link to image 1) (link to image 2) (link to image 3) (link to image 4) (link to image 5) paddling of sorts: several Duzi Canoe marathons and surf ski off shore races, Ultra Man series in the ‘80, ocean swimming, triathlons of sorts up to several times Iron Man (18 podiums). Above included several podiums at national level and few at world champs events.

Lochi lost his wife Erna in 2020. Thereafter he was hospitalized several times for heart-related issues. (link to image 1) (link to image 2) (link to image 3) (link to image 4). Now useless by competitive sport standards, though healthy and still “training” 7 days a week.

Ps: Over decades Lochi also enjoyed a “full and wild life”, sometimes with miraculous escapes: on-road and off-road motor cycling (and racing these), hunting of sorts – such as with hand gun, bow, and even qualified as Professional Hunter and Tourist Guide as supplementary income from foreigners during holidays, bungee jumping, sky diving competitions, … eisch! Somehow our Lord protected this hooligan for a reason.

Thankful, content, and wanting to share.
